Pretty Pink Posh Camping Animals - Interactive Surprise Slider Card

Hello fellow crafters!  I hope you're off to having a wonderful weekend!  I would like to share with you another surprise slider card that I made using some previously released stamps and dies by Pretty Pink Posh.  I was making a birthday card for my brother and decided to try something fun.  In the past, I've created single channel slider cards.  This time, I wanted to try a double slider with a slight catch.  If you can see in the photo, there are 5 items that are "hidden" but pop up once you pull the tab.  The little flower that pops up is the only thing that does not lie along the slider area...hence, the "catch".

For my images, I used both the Pretty Pink Posh Rainy Day and Camping Friends stamp sets and Camping Friends coordinating dies.  After I colored and die cut my images, I grabbed a scrap piece of paper (above) and cut it to the same size as my actual card front (4" x 5.25") and placed some of my card items on top.  I then outlined these items to get an idea of where they would lay on my actual card.  (Please forgive my "how to" images.  I was working on this card late at night after I had put my little ones to bed and the lighting was awful).

The sets of vertical lines that you see running down the paper are where my slider channels would lie.

I just measured and used a paper trimmer to cut my slider channel (on left) and then lay in on top of the scrap piece of paper to outline.  I also added dimensional foam dots (to which I would adhere my animals etc).  I actually doubled up on them.  Once finished, I simply used a craft knife to cut some small rectangular areas where my elements would slide.  If you can see in the photo, I made sure not to cut my grooves above or below any areas where the grooves could be seen once I attached my clouds and grass etc.  The grooves are slightly offset because not everything is popping out on the same level in the card but you want to make sure (the most important thing) that your foam dot adhesives all end exactly where everything will be showing once pulled.

I then grabbed my actual card base (above) where I had ink blended a soft blue sky using some Altenew "Seaglass" and "Ocean Waves" ink.  I then spritz some "Perfect Pearl" Perfect Pearls which I had mixed with water in a mini mister bottle. For the grass, I diecut two pieces of white cardstock using MFT Die-namics Grassy Fields and colored these pieces with Copic markers in various shades of green.  I then lay my scrap piece of paper on top of my actual card and outlined the channels that I had cut.

I once again cut these out using a craft knife.  It doesn't look like much!  But that's the fun part about surprise slider cards.  They usually look pretty strange until you finish with them!

I added my channel slider behind my card front so that the dimensional foam dots would pop up through my grooves.

This is what my card looked like from behind.  As you can see, I also added dimensional foam tape to the back so that it would not only hold my slider channel in place but to also give it room to slide once I attached this piece to another piece of plain cardstock of identical size.  Lastly, I mounted it to an A2 size top folding piece of bright blue cardstock.

Here is a finished view!  All I did was add my "creatures" to the foam dots and carefully place the front layer of grass, clouds, tent and tree stump with dimensional foam adhesives in such a way that the foam would not get in the way when I pulled on the slider channel.  As you can see, most everything is hidden.  I forgot to take a picture of how I got the flower to pop up as well, but for the "catch", I simply added a thin horizontal strip of very heavy cardstock between the two bottom dimensional foam dots on the front of my card.  It's hidden behind the front piece of grass.  It was to this strip of cardstock that I glued the base of my flower.

And voila!  I love how cute these animals are.  If you would like to make your own surprise slider card, you should give it a try!  Surprise slider cards are so much fun and they're really not that difficult.  A good video to check out, where I first learned about these cards, is the MFT Twice the Wishes Card Kit instructional video.  I'm sure there are other videos out there as well.

Stamps of Life Critter Christmas

Hello!  I don't know about you, but I'm definitely ready for the weekend!  It has been a long week of homeschooling and I am looking forward to two days "off".

I wanted to share this one layer card that I created from a newly released set of stamps from The Stamps of Life called hats4critters.  This set is so cute and versatile!  I love how it comes with a variety of hats for all different occasions.

However, I used the Santa hat to make this particular card a Christmas card.  I started by first drawing a light pencil line on a smooth white piece of cardstock.  This was going to be my "snow" pile.  I then lined up my critter stamps in the order I wanted to place them on the card.  Since the owl was the smallest of the four, I wanted to put him in the front.  I then stamped his hat and masked it.  Following that, I stamped the owl so that he would "fit" into his hat once the masking paper was removed.  I then masked the owl and stamped the hat of the cat and the raccoon.  After masking these hats as well, I then stamped those two critters.  I did not have to initally create a mask for the cat but I did create one for the racoon before I stamped the cute little white dog.

Once I had my main image of the four animals wearing their hats, I then colored the background with Copic markers.  I used B04, B02, B01, B00, B000, and B0000 for my sky.  I got this color combination idea from Michelle over at The Card Grotto.  She had done a card with this beautiful blue background that just seemed to "pop".  Her coloring skills are much better than mine (she makes some seriously beautiful cards) but I was happy with the final result!  Once I finished coloring the sky, I placed the masking paper back over each animal (I now had to create one for the cat) and their hats so that I could splatter some white paint over the top of the sky without ruining or covering their images.

Once the sky was finished, I colored the snow with some light grey tones and a colorless blender.  I then added a layer of clear glitter using my Clear Stella Glitter Pen to give the snow some shimmer.  I then colored the hats and critters themselves.  I outlined the hats with a black gel pen in order to see them better against the background.

Lastly, I added a stitched scallop piece of red cardstock using the large frame from Mama Elephant's All Prettied Up Creative Cuts followed by a large stitched rectangle on white cardstock.

This stamp set also comes with matching dies but I ended up not using them for this card.

Pretty Pink Posh Christmas Cards

Hello fellow papercrafters!  I wanted to share with you two little Christmas cards that I made using some more super cute stamps and dies from Pretty Pink Posh.  This first card is an interactive surprise slider card.  I absolutely love interactive cards!  Similar to my other surprise slider cards, I got my inspiration for this card from the MFT Twice the Wishes Die set.  You can find the tutorial video here on the basic steps on how to create a surprise slider card.

For the base of my card,  I first masked and stamped a number of pine trees onto smooth white cardstock from the Holiday Pals stamp set by Pretty Pink Posh.  I then masked off this entire section of trees and then blended some distress inks (Broken China and Mermaid Lagoon) for my background.  I then removed the mask and added some white paint splatters to resemble snow.  I also masked and stamped another section of trees, colored them with Copics and then fussy cut out this set of trees.  This is the section (adhered with 3D foam tape) where my girl on the sled is almost completely hidden.  When you pull on the tab on the bottom right side of the card, she slides out toward the penguin on her sled!  (You can see this in action on my Instagram page).

Both the cute little girl and Penguin came from the Pretty Pink Posh Winter Wonderland stamp set.  I added some glossy accents to the penguin to give him some shine.  I then heat embossed some snowflakes and my sentiment with some Super Fine Detail Silver Embossing Powder by Ranger. 

With this second card, I used stamps and dies from the newly released Christmas Friends and Happy Snowman stamp sets.  I also used the pine trees and hat stamps from the Holiday Pals stamp set.  It's probably hard to tell from the photo, but this is a double-layer shaker card, so there's a lot of dimension.  I got my inspiration for this card from this from some really cute shaker ornaments that Jennifer McGuire showed on her blog a few weeks ago.  You can see her video tutorial here.

For the first layer of my card, I cut a piece of kraft cardstock using my Stamps of Life Stitched Rectangle Dies.  I then used some white crackle embossing paste to create "snow" by adding a thin layer on top of my Snowfall Stencil by My Favorite Things.  I added some "snow drifts" using the Scallop Border Dies by Pretty Pink Posh.  The trees and leaves came from the Pretty Pink Posh Holiday Pals stamp set.

I then added my first frame layer which consisted of a piece of white foam and two pieces of white cardstock cut using the MFT Die-namics Stitched Rectangle Scallop Frames set and then glued together.

Next, I added some 3mm clear sparkling sequins by Pretty Pink Posh.  I didn't want to add too many sequins so that they would completely cover my embossed "snow".

I then added my first piece of acetate onto which I added some dots of Ranger Glacier White Enamel Accents to also resemble snow.  I had initially tried to use embossing paste once again, only to discover (which I had no idea!) that it will not adhere to the acetate.  The white enamel, however, had no trouble sticking and drying on this surface.  I also added some more "snow drifts" on top of the acetate.

I then added my characters to this scene, some snowflakes and sequins by Pretty Pink Posh, and a few more leaves.  I added one more frame layer (same as before), a second piece of acetate and one last white frame surrounded by a red rectangle to the outside of my card.

I will be sending this second card off to the Addicted To Stamps and More "Anything Goes" Challenge.

Season's Greetings

Hello!  I wanted to share with you today a Christmas card that I made using some new stamps and dies from Pretty Pink Posh.  I have heard of Pretty Pink Posh because of all of the beautiful shaker card embellishments that this company has to offer, but it wasn't until recently that I realized that this company also makes some really cute stamps and dies!  For this card, I used the newly released Christmas Friends Stamp Set and coordinating dies.  I absolutely love this set!  I decided to add some "windows" by die cutting a white piece of cardstock with the Stitched Pieces Die (also by Pretty Pink Posh).  For my blue scalloped background, I used the large stitched scallop rectangle die from Mama Elephant's All Prettied Up - Creative Cuts.

 
For the snow-covered branch that you can see through the windows, I die cut both a brown and a white piece of cardstock and then layered them (white on top of the brown but slightly offset).  I then glued a piece of clear acetate directly behind my windows and then added some 3D foam tape behind that.  For the beautiful and shimmery shaker elements, I used the Snowflake Sequins Mix, Marshmallow Seed Beads, and the 3mm Sparkling Clear Sequins packs, all by Pretty Pink Posh.

You Are Enough

When I first saw the Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamp Set, "Lovely", by Julie Ebersole, I knew that I had to have them.  The sentiments from this stamp set are so lovely and the font is just gorgeous.  For this card, I used my absolute favorite sentiment from this set, "You Are Enough".  Who wouldn't want to receive a card or a note that said those wonderful three words?  I thought it would be perfect to go along with my Peony Bouquet stamps by Altenew.  If you have never tried any of their products, they have some of the most beautiful color layering and floral stamps.     

Now, I have been waiting and waiting to get those popular Kuretake Watercolor Brush Pens for a few months now, but I actually recently received them as a birthday present!  Woo-hoo!  I can't rave about them enough.  I absolutely love them.  Since I love the look,  I decided to try my first attempt at no-line coloring.  Honestly, I didn't really know what I was doing but I had fun trying!  I'm hoping to learn the proper technique through some online classes in the near future!

I stamped and masked a few images using Antique Linen Distress Ink and then used my watercolor brushes to shade and color the flowers and leaves.  I then hand cut my entire image and adhered it to my base with 3D foam squares.

For my base, I used some kraft cardstock paper and stamped a woodgrain background with dark brown ink using Altenew's Wood Pallet Background Stamp Set.  I then used the Scallop Border Dies from Pretty Pink Posh to cut a piece of white linen cardstock and then adhered it on top of my woodgrain base.  Next, I heat embossed the "You Are Enough" sentiment with gold embossing powder.  Lastly, I added a mix of Sparkling Clear Sequins by Pretty Pink Posh to add some light embellishments.

Magical Birthday!

My daughter loves ponies.  She is practically obsessed with them.  Nothing unusual for a three-year-old, I suppose.  So, when I first saw the Magical Ponies stamp set by Your Next Stamp, I knew that I had to have them!  I fell in love with this adorable set right away and I knew that my daughter would too.  In fact, this is how I actually discovered Your Next Stamp, and I am so glad that I did!  They have so many adorable stamp and die sets!

I created this card for my daughter's 4th birthday which is later this week.  I'm pretty sure that she's going to love it.  Although, I don't think it matters to her what the card looks like, as long as it has a pony on it!

I also decided to play along with the Your Next Stamp Sketch and Color Challenge #48.  You can choose to either use the basic sketch, the challenge colors or both for your inspiration (see below).  I decided to use only the sketch because as much as I love fall colors, I didn't think they would go very well with the pony birthday card that I had in mind. (Although, I suppose the rainbow technically does have four of those colors 😉).

I first created the outer frame of my card using the All Prettied Up Die Set by Mama Elephant.  I also partially die cut the inner stitched circle on the bottom portion of my card.  I then used the Rainbow Fun Die Set by Your Next Stamp to die cut the rainbow and the clouds.  I cut the rainbow on white cardstock and colored each piece with my Copic markers.  I then embossed the rainbow pieces with some Hero Arts Sparkle Embossing Powder to give them some shimmer.  Before I attached my clouds, I glued a piece of clear acetate on the bottom half circle of my card.  I then added my clouds behind the acetate and then put some 3D foam adhesive on the back panel of my card to make room for my shaker embellishments.  For this, I used both 3mm Sparkling Clear Sequins by Pretty Pink Posh and Caribbean Dream Sequin Mix by Clearly Besotted.  I then attached that entire panel to a piece of shimmery blue cardstock.

 
I then stamped, colored and die cut my unicorn using the Magical Ponies stamp set and coordinating dies.  I also added some more sparkle embossing powder on the unicorn's mane, wings and hooves.  I lastly added a tag using Sizzix Tags Stamps & Dies and a small bow from Lawn Fawn's Put A Bow on It die set.

Happy Fall!

I wish I could say that "fall is in the air" here in Florida, but it's over 90 degrees today, super sunny and humid.  Mind you, I'm not complaining, but I definitely miss the seasonal climate changes that I grew up with in Pennsylvania.  So, I was pretty psyched when Stephanie Barnard came out with these super cute Pilgrim stamp sets (pilgrimGIRL2stamp and pilgrimboy2stamp) this past month over at The Stamps of Life.  I had so much fun working with these sets!

For my first card, I decided to make another Z-fold card since I really enjoy making them.  For easy instructions on creating a Z-fold card, you can check out my my last blog post and scroll to the bottom.  After stamping the Pilgrim boy and girl, I colored them with Copic markers and then die cut them using the coordinating dies.  For the background panels, I used the yellow watercolor wash paper from My Favorite Things.  The cute white picket fence came from the Sizzix Flowers & Fence Stamps & Dies.  For the background trees and leaves, I used the Sizzix Birds & Trees Stamps & Dies.  I diecut two trees from heavy white cardstock and then colored them with various shades of brown Copic markers.  I then die cut a number of leaves from fall-colored carstock.  I then used the grass die exclusive to The Stamps of Life to die cut the grass in front of the fence.  For my pumpkin patch, I stamped, colored and die cut pumpkins from both the pilgrimboy2stamp stamp set and also the pumpkins2cut stamp set.  For the pumpkin vines,  I actually used the balloon string dies from the Sizzix Balloons Step-ups Card Die Set and added some leaves that I die cut using the Sizzix Owls Stamps & Dies.

The nice thing about Z-fold cards is that you can add so many elements and dimension to the card, yet it can still collapse nicely into an A2-sized card when folded.

My second card also used the same Pilgrim stamps and dies as mentioned above.  For the largest frame of the card, I used the stitched scalloped frame from Mama Elephant's All Prettied Up Creative Cuts.  I then used both The Stamps of Life Stitched Rectangles and the Large Stitched Rectangles by Lawn Fawn to add the next two layers.  I then used the Mini Scallop Oval Stax by My Favorite Things to cut out the scalloped center of the card.  For the background, I water colored a "fall sunset" and then stamped my sentiment.

 
Lastly, I made this little dog card using the super cute friends4cookie stamp set (a favorite of mine!) and coordinating dies.  I stamped and fussy cut the dog bowl from the treats4cookie stamp set and added the turkey using the same pilgrim stamp and dies from above.
