MFT - Weekly Sketch Challenge 382

Hello again!  It's time for another Weekly Sketch Challenge from My Favorite Things!

I used a fun but simple design for my card today.  I tried to keep with the main sketch outline and used the Stitched Scallop Basic Edges to create my triangle portion of the card.

Here's a look at this week's sketch.

For the bottom of the card, I heat embossed some Whimsical Waves with white embossing powder onto some Steel Grey Card Stock.

I stamped my images from the BB Up in the Air Stamp Set onto smooth white card stock and colored with Copic Sketch Markers.  I used the coordinating dies to cut them out and then added them to my card with some 3D foam adhesive squares.

Head on over to the MFT Challenge and Inspiration Blog for more details on how to join in on the fun and to also check out participating team member's inspirational designs.

My Favorite Things - Stitched Blooms Card Kit Release Day!

Hello everyone!  The time has finally come to purchase the beautiful Stitched Blooms Card Kit from My Favorite Things!

I have one last card to share with you today using these gorgeous stitched flower Die-namics.  I love bold colors and color contrasts and I thought that red and white flowers would be perfect for this card.  I actually made this as a non-traditional wedding card for my cousin.

To start, I first trimmed a piece of Kraft Card Stock to 4.25" x 5.5" and scored it on the long side at 4.25" to make my card base.  I then heat embossed the BG Balloon Strings Background Stamp with Super Fine White Embossing Powder.  I also heat embossed this same stamp onto some heat resistant Acetate.

I then trimmed the front panel of my card into two pieces and placed the acetate in the middle (lining up the heat embossed pattern).  In retrospect, it probably would have been much easier to glue the acetate in first and then do the heat embossing.

For the red flowers, I simply blended some Candied Apple and Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide Inks onto smooth white Card Stock and then diecut my flowers.  For the white and white portions of the flowers, I just diecut them from Whip Cream Card Stock.  For my sentiment, I diecut the Congrats Die-namics a few times from white Card Stock and then glued it to my card.

I added a few drops of both Ivory Seashell and Autumn Red Crystal Nuvo Drops to the centers of the flowers.  Lastly, I finished the card by adding a few of the Sparkling Sequins (which are so gorgeous!) that come with the kit.

In case you missed it, here are the other cards that I made with this kit.

MFT - Stitched Blooms Card Kit Release - Day 2

Hello everyone!  It's day two of the My Favorite Things Stitched Blooms Card Kit Release.  I absolutely love the stitched flower Die-namics that come in this kit.  They're so versatile and easy to use and they'll look good on pretty much anything!

I made a shaker card today with some of the smaller stitched blooms and also the Sparkling Crystals that come with this kit.  For my background, I diecut a piece of Smooth White Card Stock with the Wonky Stitched Rectangle STAX and the LJD Jumbo Peek-a-Boo Circle Die-namics.  I then added a small white frame using the Linked Octagon Frame Die-namics.  It's very subtle but I like the effect.

I blended some Distress Oxide Inks (all colors used are listed in the links below) onto some smooth white card stock and then diecut my flowers and leaves.  I added them on top with some 3D foam adhesive squares.

For my sentiment, I blended some Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide Ink onto white card stock and then die cut it multiple times.  I then glued each piece together for some added dimension and then glued them to my card.  To finish it off, I added a few Metallic Silver Nuvo Drops.

This kit will be available, tomorrow, Tuesday April 24th at 9:00PM EST.  All links for new products will be active at that time.

MFT - April Card Kit Countdown Day 1

Hello friends!  It's time for a new Card Kit from My Favorite Things!  You're going to love it!

It's called the Stitched Blooms Kit and it's full of beautiful stitched flower die-namics.  I've made two cards to share with you today.  The first is a Mother's Day Card full of bright bold flowers.  I did some messy water coloring on these flowers and splattered them with some gold, white and black ink for some added interest.

Although hard to see in the pictures, I added some Texture Crackle Paste for the background of each card using the Geometric Grid Stencil.  I used the Mom Die-namics for the bold MOM sentiment and diecut it from Silver Sparkle Paper.  I also diecut the letters from foam and placed the foam cuts beneath so that the sentiment would pop up off of the card.  Lastly, I added some Nuvo Ebony Black Crystal Drops in the center of each flower.

My second card showcases the flowers with some Distress Oxide Inks (Squeezed Lemonade, Shaded Lilac & Wilted Violet) that I blended onto smooth white Card Stock, spritzed with some water and then diecut each flower.  I used the More Essentials Stamp Set for the sentiment that I heat embossed with Super Fine Detail White Embossing Powder onto some Black Licorice Card Stock.

I added some Crushed Grapes Nuvo Drops into the centers of the purple flowers and some Ivory Seashell Crystal Nuvo Drops into the centers of the yellow flowers.  I also added a few glossy accents on top of some of the flowers.

The Stitched Blooms Card Kit will be available this Tuesday, April 24th at 9:00 PM EST.  All links with new products will be active at this time.

MFT Happy Hippos - The Birthday Project Challenge

Hello friends!  It's time for another monthly Birthday Project Challenge from My Favorite Things!  This month is all about shaker cards!  There's just something that's so much fun about a card that shakes, lol.

My card today features the BB Happy Hippos Set combined with Blueprints Die-namics 31.  I stamped my hippos onto smooth white card stock and colored with Copic Sketch Markers (all colors used are listed at the very bottom of this post).  I then used the coordinating dies to cut them out.  For the plaid background of my card, I used the Sweet Celebration Paper Pack.  I diecut some ink blended grass (Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn Distress Inks) using the Grassy Fields Die-namics.

For the cloudy sky background, I blended some Sno Cone Premium Dye Ink over top of the Clouds Stencil.  I stamped my sentiment on top of the sky and used the circle shaker pouches to add my embellishments.  For my embellishments, I combined some beautiful Pretty Pink Posh Lemon Drop, Pansy Purple, Pink Blush, Sea Glass, Shamrock, Aquamarine and Amethyst Jewels.  Lastly, I added my images with some foam squares for added dimension.

Happy Birthday - MFT Sketch Challenge 381

Hello crafty friends!  It's time for another Weekly Sketch Challenge from My Favorite Things!  I encourage you to come and play along!  It's a lot of fun to participate and to challenge yourself to try something different.

For my take on this week's sketch, I used a cute little sheep from the BB Ewe Are the Best Stamp Set.  I stamped my image onto some Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110lb Card Stock and colored with Copic Sketch Markers.  (Sheep: W00, W1, W2, W4, W5 & W7; Balloon: B000, B21, B24, B26; Hat: G20, YG25, G19).  I also used Copics for my small scenic background. (Sky: B0000, B000, B00, B01l; Grass: YG01, YG06, YG13, YG17).

For my background, I diecut a piece of patterned paper from the Plaid Patterns Paper Pack with the large stitched scalloped rectangle die from the Blueprints Die-namics 27.  I then cut a small circle in this piece using the Circle STAX 1 Die-namics.  I attached my scenic background behind this open circle and then added a diecut frame on top using the Single Stitch Line Circle Frames Die-namics.

I used the "Happy Birthday" sentiment from the Ocean Pals Stamp Set and heat embossed it onto black card stock using Super Fine Detail White Embossing Powder.  I then used one of the small dies from the Hearts In a Row Vertical Die-namics to cut it out.  I attached it with some liquid adhesive after I attached my sheep with some 3D foam squares for some added dimension.  Lastly, I added some Iridescent Bubbles for embellishment.

MFT Sweet Forest Friends - Weekly Sketch Challenge #380

Hello!  It's time for a new Weekly Wednesday Sketch Challenge from My Favorite Things!  I absolutely love these sketch challenges because there are always so many innovative ways to interpret them.

I used the adorable Sweet Forest Friends Set for my take on this week's sketch.  I wanted to use the circle in the center of the sketch to create a fun little forest scene.  I stamped all of my images with black ink onto smooth white card stock and colored them with Copics.  I then used the coordinating dies to cut them out.  For the large circle in the middle of my card, I used the Circle STAX Die-namics Set 1 and then the Stitched Rectangle Die-namics Set 2 to cut a stitched border around the edges.

Behind this, I used the Cloud Stencil and blended some Tattered Rose and Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide Inks to create my sky.  I then diecut some grass with the Grassy Fields Die-namics and blended some Distress Inks (Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, and Peeled Paint) to give the grass some depth.  I added a few details to the grass with both some green Copics and a white gel pen.

I added a few trees which I diecut from Kraft Card Stock with the Birch Trees Die-namics.  I then blended these trees lightly with some Tea Dye and Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  I added some leaves once the trees were placed.  For my sentiment, I heat embossed it onto black card stock with some Super Fine Detail White Embossing Powder.

MFT & Friends April 2018 - Cross-Stitch Rectangle Die-namics

Hello everyone!  Welcome to another MFT Stamps new feature called MFT & Friends.  This is where the design team and some other crafty friends in the cardmaking community are challenged to take a fresh look at the latest release and come up with some more fun and innovative crafty inspiration.

For my card today, I used the newly released Cross-Stitch Rectangle Die-namics.  Now, I'm going to be honest.  When I first received this die, I didn't really think that I would use it.  Why?  Because I have never done cross-stitching before in my life and I wasn't really sure what to do with it!  However, I wanted to challenge myself to try and learn something new.  I am so glad that I did!  While this card is totally out of my comfort zone, I have to tell you, I highly enjoyed doing it and I definitely plan on doing more cross-stitching on cards in the future.

When my embroidery floss wasn't getting tangled (I'm still getting the hang of it), it was actually quite fun and relaxing!  So, where do you start?  MFT has some beautiful patterns for both the Cross-Stitch Tag and Cross-Stitch Rectangle Die-namics available on their website that you can follow!  You can find them HERE.  Because this was all new to me, I simply picked one of these patterns and followed it.

There are a lot of great videos on YouTube that show you how to cross-stitch.  One of my favorites was this informative video by Jennifer McGuire.  I highly recommend that you check it out!

For my floss, I used the DMC Pearl Cotton Size 5 and a size 20 needle.  I found these at Hobby Lobby but there are many other craft stores that carry these.  Based on a great tip from MFT's Jody Morrow in a recent post, I diecut 4 cross-stitch rectangles, poked the holes out after I stacked them and then glued them together.  This made my cross-stitching base much more sturdy than only using one panel (which I had tried initially) and made it so much easier to work with.

All in all, I was happy with the result.  I'm looking forward to doing this again and maybe one day, try to make a design from my own pattern.  Fingers crossed!

Don't forget to stop by the MFT Blog to see what amazing designs the rest of the team has created for their fresh look on the latest release!  Hope you all have a wonderful day!
