Interactive Shadow Box Card

A6 Shadow Box Card Tutorial

I created this A6 (4.5" x 6.25" when folded) Shadow Box Card for the My Favorite Things April Release.  Below is a step-by-step photo tutorial to guide you on how to create something similar.

  • To start, trim two pieces of 80lb-100lb Card Stock to 7 3/4" x 4 1/2"

  • Score each piece on the long side at 1.5" & 6.25"

  • Diecut a window using the Window Die-namics and then outline the inside of the window using a pencil.
  • Use a craft knife to cut out this rectangle around the outside of the line.

  • Diecut another window from 100lb Card Stock from either solid colored Card Stock or from and ink-blended piece (I used Tea Dye and Gathered Twigs Distress Ink).

  • Diecut two Window Frames (I blended these with Gathered Twigs and Ground Espresso Distress Inks).

  •  For the inside panels, trim three pieces of Card Stock to 5.5" wide by varying heights
  • Score each piece at 3/8" & 5 1/8" along the 5.5" side

  •  After you score each piece than diecut them with whatever edge/border die you desire.  I used the Grassy Hills Die-namics.
  • I then blended each piece with some Mowed Lawn Distress Ink for some added color dimension  but you can leave it as is.

  •  Create a background sky by trimming a piece of Card Stock to 5 3/8" wide by 2.25" tall.
  • I blended mine with Tumbled Glass and Stormy Sky Distress Oxide Inks (you can use colored Card Stock as well)

  •  For added dimension, I added a fence and hill in the background by using the Rolling Hills Die-namics (also trimmed to 5 3/8" x 2.25" tall to overlap the sky).  I used some Sour Apple Card Stock and blended this piece with Mowed Lawn Distress Ink to match the other pieces of grass.

  •  Adhere the background to the back portion of your box and then glue one side of the inner strips to the left (or right) wall of the box.

  • Once dry, then adhere the other flaps of the strips to the opposite wall of the box.  This piece should be able to fold left or right to be able to fit into an envelope.

  •  Add your creatures and then the front portion of the box that has the window attached to it.

I hope that helps anyone that is interested in creating a Shadow Box Card!
