MFT March Countdown Release Day 3!

It's Day 3 of the MFT March Countdown Release!  Talk about cuteness overload!  I'd like to share with you a clean & simple card that I made using the brand new Hoppy Friends Set.

 I first stamped my chicks onto smooth white card stock and then colored with Copics.  The colors I used were Y000, Y13, Y15, and E31.  I then used the coordinating dies to cut them out.  For the sun rays background, I used the Sunrise Radiating Rays Stencil and blended alternate groups of rays in both Worn Lipstick and Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Inks.  I then used the stencil again to add a thin layer of Moonstone Nuvo Glitter Paste over the yellow rays to give them some sparkly shimmer.

I blended some Twisted Citron Distress Oxide Ink onto smooth white card stock for the grass and then flicked some Mowed Lawn Distress Ink and White Opaque Copic Paint on top.  I then used the Grassy Fields Die-namics to diecut a panel of grass.

Lastly, I diecut a white panel with both the Wonky Stitched Rectangle Die-namics and the stitched circle from the Starry Circle Die-namics Set.  I adhered this panel to the base of my card with foam tape for some added dimension.

MFT March Countdown Release Day 4!

Hello crafty friends!  I'm back with the MFT March Release Countdown Day #4!  I don't know about you, but I always eagerly await the newly released Birdie Brown stamp set each month.  It's finally time to reveal this month's set and like always, it's totally worth the wait! 

This set is called Bubble Over With Joy and it's filled with cute little bunnies and bubbles.  I decided to create a fun little box card showing the bunnies having a fun, bubble-filled day outside.  I first stamped my images onto Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock and then colored them with Copics.  I used the coordinating dies to cut them out.  

I then blended some Twisted Citron Distress Ink onto smooth white cardtock and splashed it with a some watered-down Mowed Lawn Distress Ink and white paint.  I then used the Grassy Fields Die-namics to cut out some grass.  For the sky, I used the Cloud Stencil and blended some Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide Ink to form a light pink sky.

Lastly, I adhered everything inside the box with some strong adhesive.  I added the bubbles using some clear acetate to make them look as if they were floating.  I used both the Homespun Gingham and Sweet Celebration Paper Packs for my patterned paper panels on the sides of my box.

MFT March Release Countdown Day 5!

Hello and welcome to the MFT March Release Countdown Day 5!  I am so excited to share my projects as the newest MFT Design Team Member! You're going to love this release as it's packed with so many amazing new goodies!

My card today features the Delightful Dinosaurs Set combined with the super fun Volcano Die-namics and Lava You Stamp Set.  I couldn't resist using the Volcano Die-namics because the optional slider element that comes with it is so much fun!

 To start, I stamped my T-Rex onto Neenah Solar White 110 lb card stock and colored him with Copic Sketch Markers.  I then worked on my background scene.  For the sky, I blended some Broken China Distress Ink onto smooth white cardstock using the Cloud Stencil.  I then diecut some Stitched Mountainside Hills from Gravel Grey and Kraft Card Stock.

For the water and lakeside soil area, I used the Beach Scene Builder Die-namics.  I blended some Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers and Chipped Sapphire Distress Inks to resemble water.  I then added some tufts of grass from the You're Rawr-some Set and a "rock" from the BB Icebergs Die-namics. 

To create the volcano, I used the Volcano Die-namics and the included slider dies.  For the volcano itself, I diecut it from smooth white card stock and colored it with some grey copic markers.  I did the same for the lava but used a mix of orange and red copics.

 

I used the Lava You Stamp Set for both my heat embossed sentiment and for the word "PULL" which is stamped at the top of the pull tab.

You're Out Of This World - MFT Stamps

Hello friends!  I wanted to share with you a fun birthday card that I made following the latest sketch challenge for My Favorite Things.

For this card, I went with my favorite astronauts from the BB Space Explorer Stamp Set.  I stamped my images onto some Neenah Classic Crest 110lb Solar White Card Stock with black ink.  I then colored my images with Copic Sketch Markers (colors listed at the bottom).  Once colored, I used the coordinating dies to diecut these images.

I followed this sketch (above) for my card layout.  My Favorite Things has a new challenge sketch every Wednesday and it's a lot of fun to play along.

I then worked on the galaxy background of my card.  For this, I blended some distress inks (Broken China, Squeezed Lemonade, Picked Raspberry and Chipped Sapphire) onto another piece of Neenah Classic Crest 110lb Solar White Card Stock.  Once blended, I spritzed this with a little bit of water and splattered some opaque white paint on top to give the impression of stars.  

For my framed area, I used the Die-namics Gift Box Cover Up Die with a piece of white cardstock.  I glued this to the front of my card, over top of my background.  I then added my astronaut on top of this with some adhesive foam squares to give some added dimension.  Lastly, I added my sentiment by heat embossing it onto some Black Licorice Prestige Card Stock with Super Fine Detail White Embossing Powder.  I got my sentiment from the now discontinued MFT Out Of This World Stamp Set.  I used one of the dies from the Die-namics Essentials Fishtail Strips to cut out my banner.

You Are Mermazing - My Favorite Things

Hello crafty friends!  I'd like to share one more card that I made for the current MFT Weekly Sketch and Color Challenge.  This time, I went with a mermaid theme.  I don't know about you, but I am so ready for this winter to be over.  I thought these mermaids were a fun reminder that warmer weather is on the way.

I used the super cute BB Mermazing Stamp Set.  I stamped my images onto smooth white cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored the images with my Copics.  For the mermaid tail- patterned background, I stamped the BG Mermaid Tail Background Stamp with clear VersaMark Ink onto smooth white card stock and heat embossed it with Clear Embossing Powder.  I then blended Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers and Chipped Sapphire Distress Inks over top of the embossed paper and then trimmed it down to 4"x5.25".  For the layout of my card, I followed the Sketch and Color Challenge Combo shown below.

For the heart in the center, I used the MFT Die-namics Stitched Heart STAX.  For my sentiment, I heat embossed it with Super Fine White Embossing Powder and then die cut it using the MFT Die-namics Stitched Sentiment Strips.

I attached my mermaids to both the front of the card with both adhesive and some foam adhesive squares to give some added dimension.  Lastly, I stamped a few goldfish swimming in the background.

You're the Captain of my Heart - MFT Stamps

Hello friends!  I'm usually not a big fan of Mondays but I'm glad that it's a new week and pray that it goes much better than last!  My son picked up a respiratory infection which took a pretty bad hit on his lungs (he has asthma).  It was so sudden and scary.  Thankfully, he seems to be on the mend now.  It's hard trying to keep a 7-year old from running around and making things worse, lol.

I'd love to share with you a card that I made this weekend for the weekly MFT Sketch Challenge (sketch shown below). 

MFT Sketch Challenge #370

I used the awesome MFT Stamps BB Party Like a Pirate Stamp Set to create my take on this sketch.  To start, I stamped my images onto some smooth white card stock, colored them with Copic Sketch Markers and then die cut them with the coordinating dies.  For the background, I used a 4"x5.25" piece of MFT Kraft Card Stock and lightly drew a tattered paper design around the edge and then used some scissors to cut it out.

I then blended the card stock edges with some Gingersnap and Chocolate Inks from The Stamps of Life.  This ink is one of my favorites and blends so nicely!  I used the MFT Stitched Heart STAX to die cut my heart window and added some stitch lines around the outside using a white gel pen.  For the ocean, I blended some Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers and Chipped Sapphire Distress Inks and used the MFT Die-namics Ocean Waves to cut it out.  Lastly, I heat embossed my sentiment with Super Fine Detail White Embossing Powder.

"Monster-Sized" Birthday Cards - My Favorite Things

Hello!  I am up on the My Favorite Things blog for my third and final guest post this month.  I have had such a wonderful time as a guest for My Favorite Things and am so grateful for the opportunity.

Today I am sharing with you three "Monster Sized" Birthday Cards that I made featuring the newly released Monster Sized set combined with some previously released sets.  I love combining old and new stamp sets so that I can continue to get use out of them.  I don't know about you, but I find that I make birthday cards quite frequently.  I thought that this monster set was perfect for these occasions.

For my first card, I wanted these fun and silly monsters to look like they were throwing a surprise Birthday Party.  I combined the MFT Monster Sized Set with the LJD Make Yourself at Home and BB Up in the Air sets.  To get the 3D effect, I created a fun Pop-up Card with a floating floor.  I love doing cards with floating floors.  They may look really difficult and intricate, but honestly, the part that takes me the longest is the coloring.  The rest is just gluing pieces into place.

This card is a standard A2 sized card that faces horizontally.  To create something similar, first trim a piece of card stock to 5.5" x 8.5".  Then score at 4.25" on the 8.5" side.  For the floor itself, I trimmed a separate piece of card stock ( I added a piece of patterned paper from the MFT Kraft Collection Solid Stripes Paper Pack) at 5" x 5.5".  I then scored along the 5" side at 3/8", 4 2/8" & 4 5/8".  You can see how it folds in photo #1 above.  Before you attach the floor to the card base, follow these easy steps:

• 1.  Line up your diecut images face down and mark them at their bases to see where you will need to cut some slits into the floor.  Make sure that these images do not lay over the front edge of the floor or they will stick out of the card when folded flat.

• 2.  Using a craft knife, cut some small slits into the floor of your card.  Once this is done, you can then attach the floor to your A2 card base.  (If you have a background, adhere that first).  For my background, I simply trimmed a piece of the MFT Watercolor Wash Paper Pack.

• 3 & 4. Once your floor is attached, adhere some L-shaped pieces of heavyweight card stock.  The bottom part of the L is what you will glue to the very base of the card.  Once done, simply add your colored and/or stamped diecuts.  

I did end up adding a few more pop-up pieces after my floor was attached.  It made it a little harder to cut the slits this way, but it was not impossible.  I decided to add a pile of gifts using the BB Beary Special Birthday set.  I used the coordinating dies to diecut all of my images which I had colored with Copic Sketch Markers.

Because the inside of my card has a lot going on, I wanted to keep the outside rather simple.  To do this, I just trimmed a piece of patterned paper (I used a bright plaid piece from the MFT Plaid Patterns Paper Pack) to cover the outside of my card.  I then added a 2.5" x 12" removable sleeve (cut from a 12"x12" white piece of card stock) to hold the card together when folded.  I added a piece of MFT Grape Jelly Card Stock on top of this sleeve.  I then diecut a scalloped circle from the MFT Die-namics Stitched Mini Scallop Circle STAX and added a monster to the center using some foam adhesive squares.  For the sentiment, I used the smallest of the MFT Die-namics Essential Fishtail Sentiment Strips.

Here is a short video clip (above) of how the sleeve and floating floor work.

For my second card, I created a fun Pop-Up Box Card that fits perfectly into a standard A2 sized envelope.  Once again, I combined the Monster Sized Set with the BB Up in the Air Set (I love those flag banners) and the BB Happy Hippos Set (the cake and balloons).

Card Measurements:

• Begin with a piece of 12" x 12" card stock trimmed to 11.5" x 4.25"
• Score on long side at 3.5", 5.5", 9" and 11"
• Turn paper and score down the smallest side at 2 1/8"
• You can then trim down one long side of the paper on all 4 score lines until you reach the midpoint.
• Inside strips can be 1.25" high x 5" long and scored at 3/4" and 4 1/4"

For the background, I blended some MFT Blue Breeze Ink onto some smooth white card stock using the MFT Stencil Cloud.  For my panels, I used some MFT Blueberry Prestige Card Stock layered with some patterned paper from the MFT Birthday Blowout Paper Pack.  I also used some MFT Field Day Prestige Card Stock to diecut some grass using the MFT Die-namics Grassy Fields die set.  My sentiment came from the Monster Love Stamp Set which I stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink onto MFT Kraft Card Stock.

Lastly, I made a more simple card combing the Monster Sized Set with balloons from the BB Beary Special Birthday Set.  I added some patterned paper from the MFT Sweet Celebration Paper Pack to the base of my card.  For the main portion of my card, I diecut two cloud panels using the MFT Die-namics Stitched Cloud Edges and then diecut them again using the MFT Die-namics A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX so that they would line up perfectly on my stitched rectangle background panel.

For my background, I lightly blended some Peacock Feathers and Cracked Pistachio Distress Inks on top of the MFT Stencil Abstract.  I then added a piece of stitched vellum over this panel and placed my clouds on top.  The sentiment once again came from the Monster Love stamp set.
