MFT Tips & Tricks

Hello everyone!  I'm back today to share a really fun card with you using the new My Favorite Things BB Gill Friends Stamp Set combined with the Aquarium Die-namics.

I have created a super fun 3D Aquarium Shaker Box Card today!  Try saying that 5 times, lol.  Because of the depth of dimension to the card, it was a bit difficult to photograph and show you the full effect.  However, it was super easy to make and I will provide some step-by-step photos if you would like to try it yourself!

Cut a piece of card stock to 11.5" x 4.25".  I used a 12"x12" piece of card stock, but you can split your measurements to create a 2 piece Box Card and used a standard sized sheet of paper instead.  Score on the long side at 4", 5.5", 9.5" and 11".  Rotate it 90 degrees and score at 2 5/8" the entire length of the card stock.

Fold along the score-lines and then cut off all of the top flaps (on the shorter section) except for the back flap of the card.

The bottom of the box is going to be the larger portion to be able to fit the Aquarium Window Die-namics.  You can fold along the score-lines and cut as shown above.  I trimmed about .25" off of my tab (where the scissors are) so that you would not be able to see the tab once the window was cut.

I used the Aquarium Die-namics Window to cut a rectangular shaped hole into the front of my box.

Next, glue one Large Rectangle Shaker Pouch into the opening.  Make sure it is dry and securely in place before you move on.

I added just a few Queen & Company Diamond Toppings into the shaker pouch to resemble the rocks at the bottom of an aquarium.  I then glued another piece of acetate to the back of the pouch to hold these small pieces in place.

At this point, you can glue your box together where the tab attaches.  Here's the trick.  I then prepared the inside of my card using two sheets of acetate (cut at 4.75" x 2.5" and scored at 3/8" & 4 3/8").  Using acetate for the inside shelves of your card allows you to see all the way through to the back, creating great depth and dimension. I used both Chocolate Brown and Kraft Card Stock for the back of my card (cut at 3.75" x 4" and 3.5" x 3.75" respectively).

I then stamped my sentiment with Extreme Black Ink onto this back piece.  I probably should have done this step before I attached my fish, but I simply covered them with a piece of scrap paper so that no ink accidentally got on them.  Been there, done that.  No fun!

As you can see, this card folds easily to fit in a standard A2 sized envelope.

And it's weighs under 1 ounce, so it can still ship with just a single postage stamp!

I hope you've enjoyed my card today!  There's really so many options of what you can do with the Aquarium Die-namics.  It's such a fun die set!

MFT Gill Friends - Just Add Color!

Hello! I hope you are all having a wonderful day so far!  This month has been busy for me with vacation and traveling, so it's nice to finally be back home.  I am back today sharing one of my favorite MFT Features called "Just Add Color".  I am by no means an expert in coloring but I do love to color and find that it helps to relax me after a busy/stressful day.

Today, I am sharing the newest and super adorable Birdie Brown Stamp Set called Gill Friends.  I stamped all of my images onto some Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110 lb Smooth Card Stock with Copic friendly black ink.  I then used my Copics to color my images.

Colors Used:
  • Greens: YG0000, YG01, YG06, G19
  • Yellow Fish (Top Right): Y06, Y15, Y17, E35
  • Blue Fish: B12, B24, B28, B29
  • Clown Fish: YR02, YR07, YR68, E35
  • Purple Fish: V01, V04, V09 & Y11, Y15, E35
  • Teal & Yellow Fish: BG0000, BG01, BG05, BG07 & Y06, Y11, E34
  • Pink Fish: RV10, RV11, RV14
  • Tiny Purple Fish: BV000, BV01, BV02, BV08

I love using the Neenah Solar White 110lb paper because I find that the colors don't tend to bleed as much as they do on some other types of card stock.  It has really made a big difference in being able to get some more depth to my coloring.

I hope you have enjoyed my post today!  I would love to see what you color too!  Make sure to post your images on the MFT Insider Group on Facebook or on Instagram!

MFT- June Release Product Launch!

Hello MFT Fans!  The time has finally come for the release of the newest My Favorite Things products!  This month is full of fun goodies, so you don't want to miss checking them out the MFT Online Boutique!

I don't always make box cards but I tend to make them for the Product Launches, lol.  When I first saw these cute little crabs, this card design came to mind.  I combined two new MFT sets for this card.  I used the Just Beclaws and the Beach Buds Stamp Sets.  All images were stamped with Copic friendly Black Ink onto smooth white card stock and colored with Copics.

I first created the box portion of my card using a sheet of Kraft Card Stock.  I cut off the front flap and then diecut a window using the Square Peek-a-Boo Window Die-namics.  I glued a piece of acetate behind this.

I then made some waves using the Ocean Wave Die-namics on a piece of card stock that I had blended some Cracked Pistachio and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide Inks.  I then used some of the seaweed stamps from the new Gill Friends Stamp Set and heat embossed them with Super Fine Detail White Embossing Powder.

I used the Stitched Snow Drifts Die-namics to create my sand mounds and the Cloud Stencil (with Broken China Distress Oxide Ink) to create my sky.  I also used some beautiful light blue Berrylicious Card Stock for layering on my box panels.

Lastly, I heat embossed my sentiment "Snappy Birthday" onto a strip of Black Licorice Card Stock and attached it to one of the side flaps.

All of the newest products are available NOW HERE in the MFT Boutique!  Don't forget to head on over to the MFT BLOG when you're done shopping and leave a comment on each of the Design Team Member's Product Launch Posts for a chance to win a $100 MFT Gift Voucher!

MFT June Release Countdown - Day 3

Hello friends!  We're halfway through the new Release Countdown!  My card today features the new PI Beach Cutie Stamp Set.  I am such a big fan of the Pure Innocence stamps.  This month's set is just the cutest!

I first stamped my image onto smooth white card stock and colored it with my Copic Sketch Markers.  I then cut it out with the coordinating die.  For my background, I first created the ocean waves using the new Make Waves Stencil with some Salty Ocean Distress Oxide Ink.  I LOVE this stencil.  It is super easy to use and gives you amazing results.

I then used the Drifts & Hill Stencil to create my sand.  I blended some Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso Distress Inks keeping the color darker toward the top left (where the most shade is) and lighter toward the bottom right.  I added some texture to the sand using a few shades of brown Copics and a White Gel Pen.

For my sky, I blended some Squeezed Lemonade, Tattered Rose and Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide Inks.  I then diecut a palm tree from the Beach Scene Builder Die-namics and blended it lightly with some Distress Inks (Mowed Lawn for the leaves and Vintage Photo for the trunk).  I added a few white dots from a gel pen to the coconuts.  Lastly, I stamped my sentiment with black ink and then added a scalloped white frame using the Stitched Rectangle Scallop Edge Die-namics.

MFT June Release Countdown - Day 4

It's Day 4 of the My Favorite Things New Product Release Countdown!  I'm so excited to share with you a fun card that I made using the newest Birdie Brown Stamp Set.

This set is called Gill Friends and it's awesome!  I love summertime and beach/ocean-themed cards are some of my favorite to make.  For my card today, I went with a simple but bold look with a strong contrast of colors.  I first stamped my fish onto a sheet of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110 lb Card Stock with Copic friendly Black Ink.  I then colored them with Copics and cut them out with their coordinating dies.

For my ocean background, I blended some Salty Ocean and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide Inks onto some smooth white card stock.  I then spritzed this piece with some water and patted it dry with a paper towel.  For my front panel, I diecut a piece of white card stock with the largest Wonky Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-namics and also the Stitched Triple Peek-a-Boo Windows.

I placed my ink blended piece behind this piece and then attached both to a horizontal A2-sized card base made with half a sheet of Kraft Card Stock.  I added my fish inside the windows and also some seaweed that I stamped with some Premium Dye Green Inks.

I Hope Your Day Rocks - MFT Weekly Sketch Challenge 387

Hello friends!  It's time for a new Weekly Sketch Challenge from My Favorite Things!

I love this week's sketch.  It's always so much fun brainstorming to come up with an idea that will fit.  I think that's what makes these sketches so much fun to participate in.  For my project today, I created a fun shaker card featuring the Jungle Vibes Stamp Set.  I used the 3 horizontal panels in the sketch as my shaker component.

To create the base of my card, I first stamped the BG Musical Notes Background Stamp with Extreme Black Ink onto a 4.25" x 5.5" piece of white card stock.  I then used the A2 Stitched Rectangle Die-namics to cut a smaller stitched rectangle to hold my shaker component.  To get the shaker windows, I cut this piece three times with one of the smaller dies from the Inside & Out Stitched Rectangle Die-namics.

I then blended some Distress Oxide Inks (colors listed in the links below) onto three different strips of smooth white card stock and placed them below each window.  I added some 3D foam adhesive tape and some Sparkling Crystals.  For my images, I stamped them onto smooth white card stock, colored them with Copics and used the coordinating dies to cut them out.  I used some 3D foam squares to attach them to my card and add some dimension.
